I too enjoyed discovering Dean's puppy look. But one thing I find interesting about it is that probably the reason we're only seeing it now is that Dean didn't use to get things through that with Sam. He used to tell Sam. He used to argue. Sometimes get worried. Sometimes get lied to or kept out. But not this sort of negotiation. It might be a sign Dean perceives them as more equal now .

Interesting theory. Maybe he doesn't feel like he has the right to order Sam around as much as he did. Or maybe it just feels a little awkward after "this is a dictatorship."

Yeah, he's the one wanting to get ou of his "duty", under Sam's nagging instead of teh other way around...

I agree he might be feeling he took it too far with that - particularly after his demon days - though do you think he is thinking particularly about that? Not in general his attitude?

I think, from the things he's said about being too far gone to save, that he might regret what he did as a demon and even before that, and it's weighing on his mind.

Interesting! I can imagine that being the situation - I doubt dean was that way as a boy, Jon would probably not allow him to solve thing by being cute and negotiating, but Dean might adopt a behaviour he connects with Sam's child-like-ness, perhaps?
