I'm pretty sure Jared didn't actually mean to end his gorgeous campaign with comparing us people with PTSD to murderous blood sucking misogynistic colonialist monsters who are a danger to society and to their loved ones and are likely to be killed off - maybe for the best.


ETA:O! I should be clear, though - I have no doubt that Jared had the very best intentions in linking the ep with his campaign, it's just probably not thought through

ETA2: I'm not referring to Jared's future spoiler, but to the thing he wrote about this ep re the campaign: " I couldn't help but be struck by the fact that it dealt with our soldiers coming back from war with PTSD and, all too often, suicidal thoughts" - suicidal, homicidal, getting killed for being a monster cidal....


At least I got the writer right again. If SPN writers wrote for anon memes I might be better at guessing those!
Or, better yet, if slash writers wrote the show.

I think I remember when he mentioned Show (in regards to the campaign) he said something like 'We deal with suicide, but in a Supernatural way', or something along those lines, so when I watched last night I guess I expected more of a tie to "suicide" than what felt like just another MOTW ending themselves in a really creepy way. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the (suicide) death count wasn't higher, but I agree that the campaign and Show weren't as simpatico as I believed they would be. My thoughts, were that since Show did reference suicide, it was fresh on his mind, and he brought it up so that anyone dealing with thoughts of self-harm didn't get thrown under the bus, especially when they've possibly just opened up about their struggles.

In a shorter sense (because apparently I'm very talkie today ;D), I believe he meant it in a more generalized way, and not the specific/technical aspects of the episode... :)

I'm a little confused... I don't think this is the episode he was talking about that "deals with suicide". I think that's a future episode, the timing wouldn't really work out for it to be this one because didn't he say they'd just recently wrapped the episode he was talking about?

I don't think he was connecting the anti-suicide campaign with this episode... unless I missed something?

I'm sure Jared had good intentions, but I agree with your frustration. Another lj-friend posted yesterday about how the monster cheapened the discussion of PTSD, and I think she's right. There were so many opportunities for them here - the soldiers' actual non-monster-induced PTSD, Sam and Dean's PTSD, John's PTSD from Vietnam - any of those would have made for interesting discussions.
