There was so much I loved about the boys finding the *batcave* them having a place to come to, firstly, yes but also something Sam can be comfortable with, something he'd want that would both suit his intellectual side and the family business, make him comfortable in his own skin. Dean has always wanted Sam to accept his role in the *family business* and this way he can, and I loved that Dean saw that, knew that and how accepting he was. I loved that Dean gets his own room just because he's never had a place of his own, not since he was four and a monster took it away, and that he decorated it with weapons because he's not about to forget who he is just because something nice came along. He's Dean and the Dean I love would decorate his room with weapons, and music and a comfortable bed, but mostly, I love that he made a place for Mary, a safe place he could keep her because up until now the only safe place for her has been with Dean but now... that little thing made my heart melt.
As for this week's episode, I didn't really get Sam having to explain what 'intimate' meant to Dean either, really someone had to explain *that* to Dean Winchester. I didn't like it, I preferred they'd left it at intimate instead of having to spell it out like that, like it was something dirty. Maybe it wasn't meant that way but it came across that way to me, that Dean wouldn't just assume that an attractive woman and someone she cares about would engage in an intimate or sexual relationship. Sure we'd seen her other form then but I'm a big believer in as long as both or all concerned are consenting adults and no harm is intended then each to their own, familiar or not I don't think it made a difference which form she saw herself as. It just didn't sit well with me.
And I thought it clunky that last week Sam described Dean as a genius that when it came to lore there was no one better and this week he had to have a 'familiar' explained to him. That was bad on its own but hot on the heels of being a genius.
Also I totally agree on the motivation for murder, so... expected and uninteresting and yeah, whatever.
I just think the writing was very bad on this one.
I'm rambling and I still haven't read the rest of your post so I should probably shut up.
