I am trying to watch rugby. Because I suspect I would like sports if I got into it, I just never had anybody into it to show me the way. And people were talking about this game, so I decided to try it.

1) The most relat3able thing for me was some story about someone playing AC/DC's Thunderstruck during training (?) for some reason (?) - the AC/DC part I did get right....

2) Holy shit! Sports are violent! Those people are slamming into each other, jumping and grabbing each other in the air, lifting each other up to catch the ball! I am used to European football, they don't do that then, that I know !

3) I kinda feel like trying that sort of jump where you lunge yourself into someone's middle and just go for it

I grew up in a southern college town, so sports were a huge part of the culture--to the degree that they closed the schools for the college football team's homecoming--but I never got into it. I tried for a brief period in law school when I had it in my head that it would help my career to be able to make sports small talk, but I could never learn the rules well enough to follow what was happening. And then I got a job and realized it wasn't actually a necessary skill, so I stopped bothering. I enjoy basketball well enough to watch it happily with other people who are more invested (it moves fast, the rules are simple, and there's usually lots of scoring), but that's about it.

I've never actually seen a rugby match, but I understand it's even rougher than American football, which is already pretty violent.

Aw, I guess it's just not for everyone.
For me it was always a boys' thing, and the boys who used to pick on me at school, too, so NO....
but maybe it's time?

I love strategy, I love brilliant cool strategy, if I can get and appreciate it. And I like games fine. If I understood chess better, perhaps I would enjoy watching games, if those are broadcasted anywhere. A nd I love fandom. And if I get into sports, I'd have so much to watch .

Heh, it's definitely a huge fandom, in it's own way. The "so much to watch" aspect is part of what makes me wary. It's kind of the same way I don't want to get invested in World of Warcraft, because if I turned out to like it, it would eat so much of my time.

Never having watched either rugby or hockey, I'm not in much of a position to make comparisons, lol. I know hockey players regularly get into fistfights on the ice, but I'm not sure if that's common in rugby too.

I'm not a sports person, in that I have no real investment in attending games for teams I'm not on, or don't know anyone on, but that sporting spirit can be a lot of fun. There's also good fic, I hear--at least, in hockey fandom, which I know slightly more about because I have friends in it.

Sports are indeed violent! Or can be. Which was nice, in that cathartic kind of way, because nowadays, I'm just like, gdi I wanna FUCK SHIT UP RIGHT NOW but I need it to be legal. >.> Circus is sorely lacking in the fucking up of shit, though given the nature of it, that's probably for the best. XD Speaking from personal experience, body checking (while not game-legal in soccer, which I played) is pretty epic. ;)

WoW is fun, you should totally come and play. And it's also kinda over, isn't it? Anyhow - just know that the really time consuming parts are the raids and dungeons - and those require working with people a lot a lot. For me, that means I mostly just enjoyed the other parts - it was very consuming for a few weeks, then - not. It was fun.

Ive been considering reinstalling it in a few weeks for a month, cause the game's Halloween celebrations were fun.

I've listened to a bunch of Hockey RPF, and some of Candle_Beck's.... baseball....? some sport!.... - fic, and there's a lot of fun fic about these people I try to know nothing about outside of fanon!....
I would like to get together with th girls to waatch a game or stuff, though

I imagine Kaner looks just like Victor Krum. Both of them are in my imagination, so that doesn't help anybody else understand me much. But this kind of.... not handsome, thin, gawky, a bit hunched over, a bit strange, but not unattractive? Large features, short dark hair that looks like someone else cut it quickly and without patience.

I know he doesn't look that way but fine.

That thing where you lunge yourself at someone else and just go for it. XD Since it's not technically part of the sport in soccer you generally come from the side, though, and it's shoulder/hip-based.
