It was (for me) more about the wonder of what it's like to be human, and him feeling the kindness of someone reaching out to him when he needed it. I absolutely agree with you there. And like I said above, it also didn't sink any ships (contrary to what tumblr seems to believe... but I didn't stay long enough in crazy-land to confirm that it was a general believe or just that of some very vocal people) because I'm 100% sure that Cas would have reacted the same way had it been a very nice and gentle man.
