(all the people I have not replied to - sorry! These have not been the easies few days....)

I didn't particularly like Eileen - I didn't dislike her, and the actress seems cool - but beyond what the actress brought to the role, mostly all we got was "she's so badass".... I find that so - just - I would have appreciated more. The representation seems to have been good/appreciated, so yay on that, but come on, please, you're Robbie fuckin Thompson, please put more into this ep's characters....??

Mildred made me super uncomfortable - had there not been the thing abou Dean yes being interested, it would have read like nothing more than "old people are gross".... and even that was shaky, fetishized, and I felt was - like the people making this were not exactly sure whether it was a joke or for real ? I'm *sure* she was written to say the opposite, but for me it did not read that way .... and again, badass = very boring characterization, problematic to connect with etc.....

I never connected with Alex, I only connected with Clair on her first ep (mostly), nd I kinda try to like Jody, it's not that I dislike her, but again, I like the actress, could do with more characterization....

After the new ep is definitely would not want the Wayward Daughters theoretical spinoff....
I've watched the new ep a second time instead of sleeping to make sure - I didn't miss some awesome goodness, but it is just so badly written and just .... no....

Am I really the only person who feels this way?

I agree (mostly) on the "wayward daughters" ep. I love Jody, as always, but the characterization of Alex was definitely lacking, and Claire continues to be difficult for me to connect with, and I was actually kinda bored? Like, I LOVED the sex ed talk at the dinner table scene, and enjoyed Sam reaching out to Claire, but I really felt like it could have been a lot better written all the way around. :/

I liked Eileen, but felt she lacked some characterization as well. Yay for solid representation and for her not A) turning out to be the villain or B) dying by the end of the ep. :P

I had completely different feelings about Mildred. I didn't feel like they were trying to say she was "creepy" at all. I found her very pretty, which might have affected my interpretation, but I felt like it was more about pointing out that people don't stop being sexual beings once they reach a certain age, and that even someone of Dean's age could find her attractive in return seemed to back up that idea. I liked that he engaged in the flirting WITH her, and yet when he showed that there were boundaries, she respected them and backed off. Overall I found the whole thing sweet, not creepy, but that was just my interpretation. *shrugs* :)

I am overall just LOVING this season, it's been great - I'm just eager to get back to the Lucifer storyline, because that's what I REALLY want to know more about right now!

Thank you for the thoughtful, awesome reply, bB!1

Thank you - yes - we need better than this, come on writers!

Yay for enjoying Mildred!!1 Yes!
I am sure they didn't mean to make her creepy - just that imo it came very very close to that line, possibly crossed it.... I agree that they eant well - just.... just.... imagine if a woman from a different disempowered group were hitting on Dean, coming on so strong (which in TV is often coding for failed womanhood, pathetic, blah) - and Dean saying something like 'who knows, I might actually go for this", like it's so out there - and - I mnean - why couldn't Dean just be directly interested? why couldn't they have a kiss, a love scene?

I agree - I am liking the season a lot so far too!
And YES! I am curious!!!!!!!!!!1 So much fic fodder!
And also - so fun to actually be interested in the story arc !

~I want Jane Espenson to write for Show!
!~

The sex ed scene confuses me a lot - it's ok if you'd rather not read this, or just want to tell me how it worked for you
possibly because my upbringing was so so different from this (my mother was pressuring me to have sex ffs) -
but f for me it very much did not work.... I didn't feel the boys were exactly uncomfortable, more critical, and that I just hated....
and I just didn't feel the flow of the scene....
but really I mostly hate hate scenes where the boys are framed as this hegemonic normal thing that is presented as in the right - hate it hate it!

I love talking about the show, different perspectives and all, it's no problem. :)

I felt like the boys were uncomfortable - not critical so much as just utterly lost, because no one ever HAD this particular talk with THEM. And Dean's comments to Jody in the kitchen - "nice ambush" - seem to back that up. She wanted their support, but they were utterly clueless. They'd never been on either side of that type of conversation in their lives and were just totally uncomfortable with it.

I didn't feel like they were presented as being "in the right" AT ALL in that scene, I thought it was TOTALLY trying to say that Jody was being responsible and doing the right thing and due to their upbringing, they had no clue how to be a part of that. :/
