Blabbing about SPN 817 Goodbye, Stranger
This time it really is that, just me squeeing and nitpicking. Loved the episode a whole lot.
Oh, but before anything else -
( Speculation, could be spoilery, no idea. )

When you find yourself arguing with characterization in porn, especially if you care enough to put it aside and take notes, you know you're a slasher.
Or just a bit unhinged.

There should be fic: odd Supernatural/BtVS crossover
I'm half asleep and trying to answer deep, thoughtful messages. So instead of managing to answer in a way that shows my appreciation, I fly off on tangents and come up with weird fic bunnies.
( Spoilers for BtVS and SPN, 6th seasons )
Anyway - yay, a new SPN episode coming up! I have so been waiting!
ETA: My waiter today was pretty tall, muscular, and had long flippy hair. Could almost have been a front row seat for an OOC coffee shop AU J2 story.

Matt Cohen has great taste in men. And is a sweetie.
So, in this interview, Matt Cohen said some nice things about Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
"Kinda certain naive, you know, rugged ability to just, you know, grin".
"You try to fall in love with the guy".
"Jeffrey Dean Morgan, you're so handsome! Hurts! Ow".
Now I want Matt Cohen/JDM, or a time traveling John with himself (very elaborate masturbation ;)).
Seriously, though - he is such a sweetheart, I love his sincerity and respect for the fans, and for his art.
I love that he talks about wanting to know JDMs process, I really identify with that.
ETA: Ah! How did I not know about this?!
"Jensen has the most sexy voice, and accompanying the lips, it makes it awkward for another man [...] you look him in the eyes, you're definitely gay for a couple of moments".

I was reading this Firefly fic, in which, for no reason I understood, Mal said something like "Keep the women away! This is not place for women!" Including Zoe, including all of his crew.
And I almost spilled my coffee all over the keyboard, sitcom-like.
Write responsibly! OOC endangers keyboards around the world!

How come I've never read fic in which, say, Dean, finally just grabs Sam and kisses him, and Sam never loved Dean like *that*. And they spend a couple of days halfheartedly trying to figure out what supernatural thing made Dean do that (as we know, fandom can provide a very long list*). And find nothing, really, but resolutely decide it was this psychic shapeshiftery witch. Two states away. And don't mention it again for years.
?
Probably for the same reason that even as I write this, I'm thinking about how years and years in the future, they talk about it and everything's OK again, one way or another.
__________
*Which we will gladly compile for your pleasure, education, and hopefully plagiarism, Writers Of Canon.

FIC: A Cup of Tea Large Enough (SPN, gen)
Title: A Cup of Tea Large Enough
Rating: Gen
Relationship: Vague hint of Dean/Sam, can be read as preslash, or asexually and aromantically loving just the same.
Warnings: Book porn. Spoilers for Supernatural, 812-814.
Disclaimer: I don't own any of the characters here, though I do love them. Just taking them out for milkshakes. They'll be home in time for storytime and cuddling, no new piercings.
Author's notes: Just a small thing I felt like writing a few weeks ago. Mm, books :) More fic-spoilerly notes in the end.
Summary: Sam explores the batcave library. Mm, books.
( The space went on and on. Briefly, Sam wondered whether he should have brought some food with him. Or a bedroll. )

Thing 1:
This is beautiful and touching. Watch the vid.
"Marina Abramovic and Ulay started an intense love story in the 70s, performing art out of the van they lived in. When they felt the relationship had run its course, they decided to walk the Great Wall of China, each from one end, meeting for one last big hug in the middle and never seeing each other again. At her 2010 MoMa retrospective Marina performed ‘The Artist Is Present’ as part of the show, where she shared a minute of silence with each stranger who sat in front of her. Ulay arrived without her knowing and this is what happened."
*cries*
Thing 2:
Google's International Women's Day doodle looks like someone drew a lot of white women, got sent back to fix it an hour before deadline, and just darkened a bunch of the drawings without even bothering to correct the color of the teeth and the white part of the eyes. It mostly looks like some of the women are standing in the shade.

Seriously, loving the Supernatural fandom is like dating someone experienced enough to have stories from their wild past - all the things you've missed, but all the awesome stories about things that made them who they are.

Is anyone around, free, and feeling like betaing a 1700w, Sam-centric SPN gen (can be read as Sam/Dean) fic? Spoilery for the recent episodes.

Late for class this morning.
Honest reason - my player stopped working, so I didn't have my morning podfic to make getting up after 3 hours of sleep more bearable.
Porn is so much better than coffee.
Also - goodbye, story notes I recorded on the bus (mostly rewritten, I hope), and goodbye, partial story draft I'm not sure I can rewrite properly :/

"Why we oppose votes for men", delightfully snarky thing from 1915. (From the book Are Women People? by Alice Duer Miller)
Also, this is nice both from the activism angle and cause, well, if Sam ever needed it... I like the idea of BornFemale!Sam. Though I have to say, SPN is pretty much the single fandom in which I don't go for trans stories.
Stanford offers student sex reassignment surgery coverage.

Joss is sweet. Mentions of Much Ado
*This* is how you treat your fans :-)
I miss being part of an active Joss fandom.
I adore the sweetness of SPN people, they are *awesome*, but with a lot of them I miss the way Joss never made the fans "other". He's a fan, he means it.
Anyway -
"Are you still surprised at how fanatical your fanbase is?"
Which reminds me - "There's a time and place for everything, and I believe it’s called 'fan fiction'". Dear Joss :-)

Part of my costume for the Purim party was Dean from LARP and the Real Girl, ( spoiler behind the cut )
Turned out no one had watched that far, even the fans were stuck in the bog of The Episodes That Never Happened.
I clearly need new, more fannishly obsessed friends.
On the way home, though, a woman passing by in a car beaned at me as if I were made of butterflies, and that made it a little better :)

Wincest compared to other ships, and other random things.
1. Come to think about it, for all Wincest has an out there, hard core, bitter reputation, it's way fluffier than a lot of other ships I've followed. The boys can mostly trust each other, haven't done truly horrible things to one another, that I can think of. Pretty much. Not things like other pairings that are considered less disturbing. Like killing the other person's father, or making the other fall in love with him in order to break his heart - and bones - for revenge (canon).
2. I've written maybe 2000 words of meta about SPN 814. Whenever I try to edit it, I squee and shout and explode with emotion, hand waving and frustration with not being able to get it out. I've written two songs about it, trying to find other ways. Pieces of fic. I can't. I just can't. It's so. ! :-)
But I want to. Might manage to actually finish writing it at some point, though I suspect no one's going to bother to read it by then.
3. I want a new rec/header category, clarifying whether it's "awesome if you like that sort of thing", or "read it even if you don't like that sort of thing".
It's often not even about quality, it's sometimes just about what the author was going for.
Of instance - I love brotherly banter and friction between Sam and Dean, sprinkled on my schmoop. If an author gives me that, it might make me really happy. If that sort of thing just didn't do it for me, it might leave me bored, or sad. But then, sometimes it's written differently. Like - I don't often like serious issues of consent in my fic, particularly in SPN. But then, I've read stories in which those issues existed and were addressed, which, to me, was fascinating and beautiful. And from the other direction - had I liked the actual power play, like I might enjoy in other ships, I might not have enjoyed stopping to address it. Another thing is that sometimes a story makes a case for a pairing or kink very convincingly, while other stories don't bother with that, they are written for people who already like it.
