You probably saw Carver's graceless reaction at ComiCon to fans having issue with Charlie being killed off - particularly form a social justice POV.

In 11x02, (written by Andrew Dabb, same person who wrote the ep Charlie died in), Show said - oh, you don't like that we killed off a woman who's attracted to other women? Here, have another one! 3-2-1-dead!

I can't believe this is a coincidence. It reminds me of that Teen Wolf show runner throwing around his power to remind fans "who's boss".

ETA: Sorry, not Dabb -he wrote the next episode, my mistake!

I would agree if Jenna and Charlie were unusual for being killed, but so many characters suffer the same fate that I just can't see them as being singled out.

For me is stands out because they were the only lesbians/panromantic women/? we got (I will pretend the women in the orgy last episode were just experimental or something) - and on top of that, the very next episode from the same writer, after an unpleasant experience in comicon. For sure, shall we say, fans pointing out that this is hurtful and problematic, did not make him reconsider doing it again, ut seems.... The line was so stuffed in there, imo, too - before I got the second art I was very surprised that Jenna would randomly tell Dean about losing her virginity. That was a very strange line and an awkward segway, imo

I see your point, but I also see it the opposite of the way you do. I like that we get a variety of characters, even though they die. I like that Jenna's sexuality didn't have to be a Big Deal; it was just something that kind of came up, but that it DID come up because of course it would eventually. I know some fans get upset because all the people of color die, or all the women die, or all the LGBT people die, but this is Supernatural. Everyone dies. So to me, it's kind of cool that we had those people at all. And I see a throwaway line about Jenna having a relationship with a woman as being inclusive, not weird. But I'm certainly not going to tell anyone their opinion is wrong. It's just different from my own opinion, as someone who has only lived the life of my own group. (BTW, as an overweight middle-aged woman, I'm still waiting for them to come up with a heroic overweight middle-aged woman...)

I would so, so much rather they didn't try to represen me. Give me a show about gorgeous white cis men and do it well. I hate many of the ways they try to represent me, and then they also kill the characters. No. No. It's gotten a bit better since Kripke left, but I'd like him back please, and no representation whatsoever. Actually, please just don't ahve any characters but Sam and Dean, that'll work fine.

Buckner and Ross-Lemming wrote the episode where Charlie died.

But otherwise, I agree with you. It felt like a kick in the teeth to queer fans.

I'm sorry, you're right of course! He wrote the next episode, I misread when I checked. Thanks for the correction!

And ugh, didn't that suck? ...

It did. It just seemed like, 'Hah, we do what we want! You didn't think you mattered, did you?' Coupled with Hannah's pointless death it really spoiled the episode for me.

YESSS! WTF was that?! And that was like sort-of-almost a character presented as nonbinary (most angels seem to be agender, but most are presented as gendered) - just like with Raphael, btw!
Sucks that it ruined the episode for you!
