Dean freezes, overwhelmed with the many things he wants to say.

All the long haired, salad eating, desert hiking, produce market loving, women's issues nagging, half-caf, double vanilla latte drinking crap.

Francis.

Just call Sam a girl, dammit!

Samantha.

That time they don't talk about when Sammy was a demon chick for a week.

And that awkward dream Dean NEVER HAD about Sam actually growing a pair of boobs instead of just a pair.

The word "perky" pops into his mind, unbidden.

The moment is lost, no comeback.

Haha.. I was wondering what was running through Dean's mind at that point. had be not been so dark and lacking in humour we may have had a quip. He was thinking about Sam for sure... ;)

I agree. He must have been thinking he shouldn't take a chance on pissing Sam off right now. Perhaps sense dthat doing something so brotherly would not be welcome by Sam, and could enc in a lot of heartacje for Dean, just for the rejection in Sam's face. Ties into the "I know, you wouldn't have done the same for me", which is perhaps the most crushed thing I've heard from Dean in ages.

Oooh, I wasn't thinking about it like that. Actually, I think Sam would probably welcome a quip like that from Dean - it would show that he's still got some of his "old self" there. At the moment I think Sam is too worried about Dean to be thinking about their past argument (and it's curious that even though Sam has said they couldn't work as brothers he's been the one to work in their usual brotherly fashion). If Dean was himself he would have perhaps looked and smiled at Sam on that line and Sam would have given his patterned bitch face. As it was, there's just too much angst between them to be as light as that *sniff*

Ties into the "I know, you wouldn't have done the same for me", which is perhaps the most crushed thing I've heard from Dean in ages.

That was so painful. It obviously cut very deep with Dean - he clearly believes it, even though we (and Sam) knows it isn't true.
